From 2022, all energy suppliers are set targets by the Government and this tells suppliers how many electricity and gas SMETS2 meters they need to install each year.
In 2022, we installed 9,429 gas meters and 10,879 electricity meters (20,308 in total). We fell slightly short of our targets for 2022 which were to install 24,204 smart meters.

The benefits of smart meters are widely known, but if you have a 2nd generation smart meter you can expect:

Automatic regular readings – smart meters can send us meter reads automatically, so you won’t need to submit these any more

Billing to your reads – because we receive regular reads automatically, we can bill you to the smart reads, and there will be no estimation on your bills

Greater visibility of your usage – if you have an In-Home Display, the small monitor in your home, you can see real-time energy usage. You will also be able to see how much your energy is costing you. You can use this information, along with how and when you use appliances, to better understand how your consumption affects your bills, make changes to your usage and start to see improvements in your consumption and costs
