Just like food, traditional meters are given a 'best before' date when they are made. This certification date is set by the Office for Product safety and Standards (OPSS). When a meter passes their 'best before' date, we have to replace them.

Why do I need to have my meter replaced?
It is incredibly important that your meter is working efficiently so we receive accurate readings. As meters get older, they may start to run too fast or too slow which may have an impact on the meter readings you send to us and ultimately impact your bill negatively.
This is why the OPSS have health and safety requirements in place to prevent this from happening.
